THREE TIPS TO MAKE YOUR HOME FEEL PEACEFUL AFTER A LONG DAY

ONE. // PICK-UP IN THE MORNING.Most of the time, we're all rushing around and trying to get out the door in the mornings.  However, it doesn't take much time at all to make a world of difference when it comes to clearing surfaces and putting things back in their place.  Wake up 10-15 minutes earlier to pick up those shoes that are laying around, throw a few dishes in the dishwasher, start that load of laundry, or make your bed and fluff the pillows around the house.  Allowing yourself that little bit of extra time will make you feel so much more relaxed when you walk in the door at 5:30PM.  There's nothing better than coming home to a house that's picked-up and clean.  (And if you're not a morning person, do it the night before!)TWO. // WINDOWS, FLOWERS, CANDLE, FIRE.Four of my absolute favorite things.  Separately, they're all small things, but together make such a difference in making your home feel peaceful.  I like to grab flowers over the weekend or on a Monday afternoon - whether you spend a few dollars on them or cut them from your garden, they bring so much life into your space.  When you walk in the door from work, immediately open the windows and light a candle.  (Weather permitting of course.)  There's something about a breeze blowing through the house and the smell of your favorite candle burning that just feels calming.  Lastly, if you have a fireplace - light a fire at night while turning on your favorite show.  Sometimes (unless you have gas logs) it's a little extra effort, but makes your home so cozy.  Even if you only choose a couple of the four, a small act will make a big difference in your nightly routine.THREE. // GO OUTSIDE.After being cooped up in an office or staring at your laptop all day, there's nothing better than a little outside air.  Whether it's your front porch, back patio, or even taking a walk around the neighborhood, being outside just allows you to breathe deeper.  After I've had a long day, there's nothing better for my soul than spending an hour or so in the yard.  Playing with the dogs, watching the chickens run around, grilling dinner, or planting a little something I picked up that day.  It's so easy to get stuck in a rut this time of year and not go outside as often, but Spring is right around the corner and I promise, being outside is so healing! One thing I had to learn last year was to slow down and not make so many plans.  Rather than coming home after a long day and rushing to get to the next thing, being able to enjoy the space we've created to the fullest has made me appreciate it so much more.  Your home should be where you feel most content and at peace.  Take pride in it - it's usually the little things that go a long way!  There's no place in the world I'd rather be than at our little cottage - fill your home with things that inspire you and bring you joy, both inside and out!Happy Monday, friends - thanks so much for stopping by!  X.Meg
